The city of Bordeaux, located in the Novelle-Aquitaine region of Southwestern France is the 8th largest in France. It’s a prominent wine growing and production area and has a significant influence on the wine industry world-wide. Wine has been produced here since the 8th century. The Dordogne river valley is not only home to magnificent Chateaux but also the ancient cave paintings of Lascaux.
We start with a guided city tour of of the city of Bordeaux including various culinary stops like the Capucins market.
Our accommodation for 4 nights is in the charming Chartrons neighborhood.
After a guided tour of Saint-Emilion's church, in the afternoon, we visit and sample wines from a chateau in Pomerol and another one in Saint-Emilion.
The Arcachon Basin boasts a nature reserve and oysters galore. Along with a boat cruise through the Basin, we will sample the fresh oysters and other seafood.
Our transfer day to the Dordogne Valley includes a stop in the town of Bergerac where its eponymous hero, Cyrano, hails from.

This is the day to explore the exceptional prehistoric art found in the Lascaux caves and then La Roque Saint-Christophe, a kilometer long and 80 meters high wall with around 100 rock shelters and habitats carved out of the limestone.
The Gouffre de Padirac is a chasm 103 meters deep with an underground river which we will explore on foot and by boat.
The town of Rocamadour is perched on a cliff above the Dordogne River and is known as a pilgrimage site with its complex of monastic buildings and pilgrimage churches.
We visit Sarlat-la-Caneda and then the walled fortress town of Domme.
On our last full day in the Dordogne Valley, we visit the formal gardens of Marqueyssac then take a ride in a traditional Gabarre boat from the region and lastly, visit the Chateau de Beynac.
We are transferred to the Bordeaux train station in the morning, ending our adventures in this part of France.
